JAKARTA: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Bin Ibrahim praised former Prime Minister Hun Sen while meeting with his son, current Prime Minister Hun Manet.

On September 5, the Malaysian PM made a courtesy call to Prime Minister Hun Manet while they were both in Jakarta for the 43rd ASEAN Summit. He said that Hun Sen was a good friend and considered him as Cambodia's top leader.

He expects relations and cooperation between the two countries to continue to be well-sustained and grow further under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

In response, the Cambodian prime minister praised the friendship and cooperation that the two countries have carried out, especially the coordination that Malaysia has provided to Cambodian workers working in Malaysia.

The two leaders also discussed enhancing cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia in the fields of politics, trade, investment, education, energy security, employment and the fight against transnational crime.

In the field of energy security, the Prime Minister requested the support of the Malaysian government for the project to build a submarine power line from Laos through Thailand and to Singapore, which will cross the Malaysian sea border.

The two heads of government also pledged to strengthen cooperation in the fight against transnational crime and cybercrime, increase trade and encourage investment from both countries.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed his gratitude to the Royal Government of Malaysia for supporting Cambodia's candidacy for the ECOSOC for the 2028-2030 term and for the Peacebuilding Committee (OCPBC) for the 2025-2026 within the framework of the United Nations.
